Nuclear moments from heavy-ion inelastic scattering above the Coulomb barrier

Description

Use of appropriate theoretical techniques allows the study of the moments of the nuclear charge distribution to be extended above the Coulomb barrier. The investigation of nuclear moments through analysis of differential cross sections is discussed with the aid of several examples: 12C(70.4 MeV) + 144146Nd, importance of multistep effects; 20Ne(131 MeV) + 208Pb, large hexadecapole deformation; 12C(78 MeV) + 194Pt, asymmetric rotor model; and 22Ne(93.5 MeV) + 126Te, mutual excitation. 13 figures, 1 table
