Reduction of protactinium to the trivalent state

Description
It is demonstrated on the basis of cocrystallization of 233Pa with solid NdOCl from fused NdCl3 that Pa is reduced to the tetravalent state in the presence of Sm2+ and to the trivalent state by Tm2+. The experimental results agree with theoretical calculations of the Pa4+/Pa3+ redox potential
