Description
57Fe Moessbauer technique was employed for characterizing chemical studies of iron in a continental basalt so as to obtain a clue to elucidation of alteration processes in such systems. The Moessbauer spectra indicate that the alteration affected significantly the chemical states of iron as a probe: in the altered region in columnar joint Fe2+ ions in silicate minerals were oxidized to paramagnetic and magnetic iron(III) species.
