The Phase Transformation Study Of γ-Fe2O3 - α-Fe2O3 By X-Ray Diffraction

  • 1. Center for Research and Development of Materials Science and Technology, National Atomic Energy Agency, Serpong (Indonesia)

Description

The Fe2O3 precursors have been successfully synthesized by wet chemical method from HSM based materials of a fabrication industry waste. Phase identification by x-ray diffraction technique showed that the precursor has γ-Fe2O3 phase system. X-ray diffraction profile of subsequent heat treatment precursor from 450oC to 850oC, showed that a phase transformation took place at around 625oC ∼ 700oC. Results of diffraction peaks analysis showed that the α-Fe2O3 growth proportionally to the decreases of γ-Fe2O3 phase. The transformation kinetic of γ-Fe2O3 , to α-Fe2O3 has been studied by analyzing the effects of heat treatment at constant temperature of 600oC for 5 minutes, 15 minutes, 75 minutes, 5 hours, 15 hours, 25 hours and 30 hours. Normalized x-ray intensities as the function of annealing time were fitted with Avrami e question result in the constant rate parameter of k 1,67 x 10-3 /minute
