Implementation of a new characteristic parameter into the IRI sub-peak electron density profile
Description
The model electron density profile of the International Reference Ionosphere (IRI) is compared with the N(h) profile based on the data of vertical incidence sounding, and a way to improve the shape of the IRI profile is proposed. In particular, it is proposed that the height and electron density of the F region sub-peak inflection point be entered in the set of standard parameters. These parameters are determined from the main peak parameters of the ionosphere using simple relationships. A set of statistically representative data is presented to validate the approach proposed here
