Radiological and chemical analysis of medium and high activity samples: the example of LAMM laboratory in the ATALANTE facility - 5364

  • 1. CEA - Centre de Marcoule, Nuclear Energy Division, Radiochemistry and Processes Department, F-30207 Bagnols sur Ceze (France)

Description

High and medium activity sample analyses represent a real challenge for the analyst due to the facilities and equipment needed. Radioprotection, waste and analytical effluent issues require very specific design for the equipment and generally lead to decreased performance compared to low activity sample analysis method. Examples of recent developments conducted by the LAMM (Laboratory of Analysis and Materials Metrology) at CEA Marcoule Center are presented in this paper. They focus on: X-ray fluorescence for fast and reliable actinide analysis, TIMS (Thermal Ionization Mass Spectrometer) for high accuracy actinide analysis, and micro-fluid technology which allows drastic reduction of waste and effluents.
