Effect of High Irradiation Dose on Mechanical And Physical Properties of Radiation Pre vulcanized Natural Rubber Latex (RVNRL) Films

  • 1. Malaysian Nuclear Agency, Bangi, Kajang, Selangor (Malaysia), Technical Support Div.

Description

Based on the ASTM D3577-01a standards, surgical gloves must have a minimum tensile strength of 24 MPa even after the sterilization process as specified by ISO 13485: 2003 and ISO 11137-2 standard. In these experiments, the RVNRL films were irradiated at doses of 25, 30 and 35 kGy and the observed effects of high irradiation dose on mechanical and physical properties. Exposure to high irradiation dose will slightly change the colour of the RVNRL films and affect the tensile strength. (author)
