Elemental characterization of atmospheric particulate matter using neutron activation analysis

  • 1. Environmental Assessment Division, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai (India)

Description

Coarse and fine fractions of Particulate matter are analysed for trace elements using INAA technique. The result showed high concentrations of Fe, Na in both size fractions indicating crustal and sea salt respectively as the major contributing sources of these elements. The elemental data obtained from INAA analysis is used for source apportionment studies. Crustal, vehicular emissions, sea salt, and industrial source are identified as the major contributing sources of coarse and fine particulate mass. (author)
