Combustion of vanadium-iron alloys in nitrogen

Description

A vanadium-iron system is chosen for studying alloy combustion in nitrogen. Pellets of a group of alloys with a relative density rho0.51 (powder dispersion P<=0.05 mm, nitrogen pressure p=60 atm) twere burnt for experimental determination of he maximum iron content in the alloy at which combustion is still possible. The maximum iron concentration at which combustion of alloys is possible is determined to be 60% Fe. The layer-by-layer X-ray analysis nd metallographical studies of hardened samples show that the σ→α phase transformation takes place in the front of equiatomic-composition alloy combustion. The phase transformation essentially afects the formation of the product finite structure
