Leukaemia 'clusters' and nuclear installations with special reference to Dounreay

  • 1. British Nuclear Fuels plc, Risley (UK)
  • 2. UKAEA Northern Research Labs. Windscale, Seascale (UK)

Description

A possible causal link between nuclear industry operations and localised excesses of childhood leukaemia cases has led to a number of epidemiological studies. Care must be taken in the design of such studies to avoid misleading results. The Dounreay studies are examined as an example of the problems of interpretation which can arise. A Monte Carlo simulation analysis is carried out to shed light on some of these problems. (author)
