Determination of wear resistance of hard alloy instrumental materials by positron annihilation method

  • 1. Tomskij Politekhnicheskij Inst. (USSR)

Description

A positron annihilation method is considered as applied to wear resistance testing of hard alloy tool materials. Wear resistance testing of tools with cuttina edge made of VK8 steel has been carried out. The cutting edge wear was determined with the help of a microsocope by measuring wear facet of the back surface. The Kh17N13M2T steel was used as a working material. High sensitivity of weak resistance to the presence of defects in the hard alloy structure has been established. The test results show that the positron annihilation method can be used to forecast wear resistance of hard alloy tools during machining certain materials under cutting conditions specified beforehand
