Description
Feedwater, condensate, and steam impurities are the most serious contributors to the corrosion process in the secondary system of pressurized water reactor (PWR) nuclear power plants. One important contaminant that contributes to the corrosion process is oxygen. This design guide discusses features that should be specified in components and designed into systems to minimize oxygen induced corrosion. Subjects discussed in this design guide are sources of air inleakage and its reduction, oxygen introduction from condensate storage tanks, the use of chemicals to scavenge oxygen and protect surfaces from oxygen induced corrosion, selection of materials resistant to oxygen induced damage, and methods of removing oxygen from condensate under low load conditions
