Effect of Langmuir oscillations of electron background on the degree of ion beam neutralization

  • 1. AN Ukrainskoj SSR, Kiev. Inst. Fiziki

Description

A deneutralization mechanism of a positive ion beam when exciting the Langmuir oscillations of a neutralizing electron background is investigated. It is shown that the deneutralization of fast, extented, not very dense beams, is determined not only from the electron heating at the expense of the Coulomb collisions with beam ions but also from the longitudinal electron acceleration by fields of plasma electron oscillations excited with the beam. The obtained experimental data on constant and alternating beam potentials under conditions of the nonlinear ion-electron interaction agree with the evaluations based on the representations of the electron capture with wave fields
