Description

Pt/SiO2 catalysts varying in size of Pt nanoaggregates were tested in the reaction of U[VI] catalytic reduction by hydrazine in H2SO4, HClO4 and HNO3 solutions. The catalytic activity of Pt surface atoms in Pt/SiO2 catalysts in the course of the mentioned reaction increases monotonically as the metal crystallites at the carrier grow in size, that is, one observes the negative size effect. The catalytic reduction of U[VI] by hydrazine in H2SO4 solutions takes less time than that in HClO4 and HNO3, while it takes slightly less time in HClO4 in contrast to that in HNO3. The obtained results are interpreted on the basis of the knowledge both of the surface atom energy inhomogeneity and of the mechanisms of U[VI] catalytic reduction by hydrazine in acid media
