The interpretation of Moessbauer spectra obtained with polarized gamma-rays and single crystal absorbers

Description

The problem of calculating the intensities of the lines of Moessbauer spectra, using polarized γ-rays and polarized absorbers, is discussed with particular reference to 57Fe. The subject is formulated so as to enable a set of measurements to be selected which will yield the maximum available information about the absorber, and the reduction of the measurements to more familiar terms (in some cases leading to a complete determination of the Hamiltonian of both the ground states and the excited state) is systematized. Examples are given. (Auth.)
