Commissioning the RIKEN CsI(Tl) charged particle detector system in the 22O(d,p)23O transfer reaction

Description

The detection of light, charged particles in experiments involving radioactive ion beams is crucial since the reaction channel in question can be chosen accurately in this way. Part of a recently constructed CsI(Tl) scintillation charged particle (CP) detector system has been commissioned in the 22O(d,p)23O transfer reaction experiment at RIKEN radioactive ion beam separator. 39 from the total of 78 units, each consisting of four closely packed detector elements of 16x16x55 mm3 scintillator crystal coupled to 10x10 mm2 Si pin photodiode and equipped with miniature preamplifier has been used in the 92-150 deg backward angle range, arranged in 8 subshells. The aim of the experiment was twofold: (i) to investigate the single particle structure of 23O, obtain information on the O to F shell structure change and (i) simultaneously test the usefulness of the CP detector system. Here we put the emphasis on the construction and performance of the CP detectors. (author)
