The GEM experiment at the SSC
Description
The GEM Collaboration, formed in June 1991, has progressed rapidly in its development of one of the SSC's two major detectors. At the present time, the Collaboration contains more than 710 Physicists from 89 institutions in 16 countries. GEM (''Gammas, Electrons, and Muons'') is designed as a precision lepton and photon detector, combined with good resolution for hadron jets. The physics emphasis is on searches for new physics using precision measurements of high PT events based on a detector concept using a compact tracker and a large open-geometry calorimeter and muon system
