Suppression of solvent extraction of metals

  • 1. AN SSSR, Moscow. Inst. Geokhimii i Analiticheskoj Khimii

Description

The review (98 refs.) deals with the analysis of reasons of both suppression of extraction of one element in the presence of another and reductjon of element distribution coefficients with the growing elemental concentration - ''self-suppression''. Discussed are such reasons as a decrease in the equilibrium concentration of free extracting agent due to its binding with macroelement; formation of polymer compounds of the elements being extracted in the a ueous phase; dissociation of extractable compounds in the organic phase. Multiple examples of solvent extraction suppression in different systems are tabUlated with the indication of suppression mechanisms. The extraction suppression according to the mechanism of the general jon is most widely spread. Possibilities of analytical use of extraction suppression, in particular at a relative concentration of elements, are considered
