Development of an acquisition and processing system for scintigraphic images obtained at different energies: advantages in research using several radioelements simultaneously

Description
A scintigraphic system was developed. It includes a delay-line camera with a very wide analogue energy window and online mini-computer. The main feature of this system is that the coordinates X, Y (position) and Z (energy) of all photons detected in such a window are recorded sequentially. This gives the possibility of creating 'multichannel images', i.e. a set of two-dimensional matrices obtained simultaneously at several energies. Such images are especially valuable for clinical studies using several radioelements at a time. In useful images obtained under such conditions the elimination of troublesome effects due to tissue-scattered photons is a basic problem. Various techniques may be proposed, in particular a method using digital filtering for the non-stationary resolution correction. These filters are derived from a thorough study of the response of the system as a function of position, energy and depth of the scattering medium. Encouraging results were obtained in a number of studies on phantoms and clinical cases

Un systeme d'imagerie scintigraphique a ete developpe; il comprend une camera a lignes a retard avec une fenetre en energie analogique tres large et un minicalculateur connecte en ligne. La caracteristique essentielle de ce systeme est que les coordonnees X, Y (position) et Z (energie) de tous les photons detectes dans une telle fenetre sont enregistrees sequentiellement. Ces donnees permettent de creer des 'images multicanales' c'est-a-dire un ensemble de matrices bidimensionnelles obtenues simultanement a plusieurs energies. Il est particulierement important de disposer de telles images lors d'etudes cliniques utilisant plusieurs radioelements en simultaneite. Dans ce cadre, dans les images d'interet, l'elimination des effets genants, dus aux photons diffuses dans les tissus, est un probleme fondamental. Un certain nombre de techniques peut etre propose, en particulier une methode utilisant le filtrage numerique pour la correction de resolution non stationnaire. Ces filtres sont derives de l'etude approfondie de la reponse du systeme en fonction de la position, de l'energie et de la profondeur du milieu diffusant.
