The CEA Megajoule Laser
Creators
Description
This article presents the CEA Megajoule Laser research centre which aims at re-creating thermodynamic conditions in a laboratory similar to that occurring during the operation of a nuclear weapon. It also aims at validating numerical simulation tools. The operating principle of the Megajoule Laser is described with its laser chain to produce, amplify and focus light, its experiment hall and chamber, its target. The author highlights the technological challenges of this installation for the French industry, and how it therefore boosts the development of new technologies
