Fabrication and characterization of a surface barrier Au-Si radiation detector

Description
A radiation surface barrier detector was fabricated using n-type crystalline silicon of 800-1000 ohm-cm resistivity. A gold layer of 5000 A thickness was deposited on the surface to form an Au-Si diode. The I-V type characteristics and alpha spectrocopies on Am-241 and Pu-239 were studied. It was found that the detector resolution was 9.7% for Am-241 spectrum which is relatively larger compared to commercial detector of the same type. The resolution of the latter was 3.9% for Am-241 source
