High energy gamma ray production in intermediate energy heavy ion collisions

  • 1. Michigan State Univ., East Lansing

Description

Unexpectedly large yields of high-energy gamma rays are produced in heavy-ion collisions at intermediate energies. The mechanism of high energy gamma ray production is not fully understood. Many models, however, assume the production mechanism is incoherent bremsstrahlung from neutron-proton collisions. This talk will present data on high energy gamma productions with beams ranging from deuterons to krypton. In addition, data from recent coincidence experiments will be discussed
