The actions taken by the Dutch Government in response to the challenges raised by UNCED in the field of energy and climate change policy in the medium term are summarised in this paper. The author then presents some thoughts on how the Netherlands might proceed in implementing the ideas embodied in Agenda 21 in the longer term
