On the prediction of the integrated cross section for the capture of fast neutrons

Experimental data of the reactions 89Y (n, γ), 140Ce (n, γ) and 208Pb (n, γ) are compared with the calculations based on the direct-semidirect (DSD) model in order to test its predictive power for the sum of primary γ-ray transitions to the bound states (integrated cross sections). The results, utilising the well known spectroscopic data of the final states, are confronted with the estimate in which single-particle levels are generated from the common Saxon-Woods potential. Small differences in these two calculations indicate that such estimate may be quite acceptable in cases where adequate spectroscopic information on the final nucleus is not available. (orig.)
Abstract (German)
Experimentelle Daten von 89Y (n, γ) 140Ce(n, γ) und 208Pb (n, γ) werden mit Rechnungen verglichen, die auf dem DSD-Modell (direct - semidirect) beruhen, um die Vorhersagekraft fuer die Summe der primaeren γ-Uebergaenge in die gebundenen Zustaende (integrierte Wirkungsquerschnitte) zu ueberpruefen. Die Resultate werden unter Verwendung der gut bekannten spektroskopischen Daten fuer die Endzustaende gewonnen und mit der Abschaetzung verglichen, die man erhaelt, wenn man 1-Teilchen-Niveaus aus dem ueblichen Saxon-Woods-Potential ableitet. Kleine Differenzen in diesen beiden Rechnungen zeigen, dass solche Abschaetzungen akzeptabel sein koennen, wenn keine adaequaten spektroskopische Informationen ueber die Endzustaende des Kerns vorliegen.
