The determination of carcinoembryonic antigens: experience with an own radioimmunoassay
Description
For CEA, a radioimmunoassay for the tumour-associated CEA antigen was developed in addition to a special alpha-fetoprotein radioimmunoassay. This test method was used for therapy and course control as well as recidivity control in patients suffering from certain malignant diseases such as carcinomas of the colon, the pancreas, the stomach, the bronchial system and the breast. This test method is highy specific; it has the advantage of direct concentration determination without extraction, it is insensitive to small variations of pH and ion concentrations and requires only 200 μl serum per assay. On the other hand, this radioimmunoassay is unsuitable as screening method for tumour exclusion. (GSE)

Fuer das Carcinoembryonale Antigen (CEA) wurde nach Entwicklung eines eigenen Alpha-Fetoprotein-Radioimmunoassays auch ein radioimmunologischer Test fuer das tumorassozierte Antigen des CEA entwickelt. Mit Hilfe dieses Testverfahrens wurden Therapie- und Verlaufskontrolle sowie Residiv-Ueberwachung von Patienten mit bestimmten molignen Erkrankungen wie Dickdarm-, Pankreas-, Magen-, Bronchial- und Mamma-Karzinom geprueft und behandelt. Das erwaehnte Testverfahren ist sehr spezifisch, es bietet den Vorteil der direkten Konzentrationsbestimmung ohne Extraktion, es ist gegenueber maessigen Schwankungen von pH und Ionenkonzentrationen nicht stoeranfaellig und benoetigt pro Einzelbestimmung nur 200 μl Serum. Als reine Screeningmethode zum Ausschluss von Tumorerkrankungen ist dieser radioimmunologische Test jedoch nicht geeignet. (GSE)
