t' searches at the Lhc
Description
A minimal joining of electroweak symmetry breaking and flavor physics occurs if a fourth family exists with quark masses in the 600GeV range. Associated with this is the possibility of new flavor interactions accessible at the Lhc, involving a new X gauge boson coupling preferentially to the third and fourth families. T t production yields a high mass peak in the W b invariant-mass spectrum, and we highlight the jet mass technique to identify W jets. X production and decay to τ+τ- also yields a high mass peak, reconstructed from visible decay products and missing pT. Appropriate cuts are essential in both cases to sufficiently reduce the t t background.
