Some experimental tests of perturbative Q.C.D. predictions in hadronic production of lepton pairs

Description

Hadronic production of massive lepton pairs by Drell-Yan is an experimental testground of perturbative Q.C.D. predictions. The total cross section is found experimentally to be K approximately 2.5 times higher than predicted by the parton model; this K factor is successfully explained by next-to leading calculations in Q.C.D. In the case of transverse momentum distributions the situation is more complicated; the experimental results seem to be satisfactorilly explained by double logarithm resummations in Q.C.D

Abstract (French)

La production hadronique de paires de leptons de grande masse par le mecanisme de Drell-Yan est l'un des domaines ou l'on peut tester experimentalement les predictions de Q.C.D. perturbative. Dans le cas de la section efficace totale, l'experience trouve un facteur multiplicatif K approximativement 2.5 par rapport au modele des partons; ce facteur K est effectivement predit par les calculs au 1er ordre de Q.C.D., au-dela des logarithmes dominants. On examine ensuite le cas plus complexe des distributions en moment transverse, ou les resultats experimentaux necessitent de prendre en compte les resommations des termes a doubles logarithmes dans Q.C.D
