Description

The objective of this paper is to review the design and qualification approach for the installation of additional Emergency Diesel Generators (EDGs) at the Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Plant (PI). Implementation of the additional EDGs is directed by the industry position as represented in the Nuclear Management and Resources Council (NUMARC) initiatives and guidelines published in NUMARC 87- 00. A Regulatory Matrix is utilized for evaluating a proposed EDG facility design against current regulatory standards in support of a licensing amendment request. The qualification program is to meet the intent of IEEE 387-1984 EDG design validation and functional test requirements
