Accelerated radioactive nuclear beams (low energy)
Description
It is now considered feasible to produce and accelerate intense beams of short-lived radioactive heavy ions, both to study the species themselves and for use as projectiles in reactions of interest. Beams may be produced by recoil techniques or by diffusion techniques. They may be used in nuclear astrophysics or nuclear physics studies. The ISAC facility proposed for TRIUMF is still awaiting final funding, but the small test facility TISOL is operating and a program of testing and developing systems needed in an ISAC facility is underway
