CsI(Tl) detector application for low energy mixed radiation field spectroscopy

  • 1. Institute of Nuclear Power Enginnering, Scientific Center of Russian Federation, 249020 Obninsk (Russian Federation)

Description

The CsI(Tl) crystal was used for charged particle registration. Photomultiplier signals were digitized by quad waveform digitizer. The particle energy was estimated with accuracy -180 keV. Each signal was described as a sum of three exponential curves using the least squares method. This approach allowed to create a method for pulse shape identification of the charged particles. In addition, this method may be used for pull-up rejection. The main luminescence proper- ties (light yield, rise time, decay time) for various particles were investigated. It shows that electrons, protons and the alpha-particles with energy up to 1 MeV can be effectively separated. (authors)
