Description
An expression is derived for the probability distribution of the dispersion in the flux-density fluctuations of scintillating radio sources. Observations of background-source scintillation at 102.5 MHz provide an experimental estimate for this probability distribution. For a power-law differential number--flux-density relation n(S)proportionalS/sup -gamma/, the S-dependence of #betta# must be considered in order to reconcile the theory with the observations
