Recent progress in the development of scintillating fibers

Description
A scintillating optical fiber, of which the core is made of scintillating materials such as plastics, glasses, or organic liquids, can transmit scintillation photons produced by incident radiation over a long distance while retaining their local position information. By making good use of the advantages of both scintillators and optical fibers, many applications are expected using scintillating fibers as a new element for radiation image sensors. This paper reviews recent progress on the basic performance and typical applications of scintillating fibers. (author)
