Adsorption behaviour of some metal ions on cation-exchange resin (Dowex 50W-X4) from ammonium acetate-dimethylformamide media

Description
The cation-exchange (by Dowex 50W-X4; NH4+-form) characteristics of 17 metal ions in media consisting of 40% DMF and varying concentrations (0.02-1.00 M) of NH4OAc have been reported. To ensure maximum adsorption, the metal concentrations employed were kept ca 16% of the total exchange capacity of the resin. The values of distribution coefficients have been evaluated, and possible separations of metal ions have been predicted. Some of the useful separations have been achieved using column chromatography.
