Description
A short background description of the nuclear fuel cycle in the United States is given. Safe and ultimate disposal of spent fuel and high-level wastes are assured by the Nuclear Waste Policy Act of 1982. Then the waste management program is presented. It includes a monitored retrievable storage (MRS), a geologic repository and a transportation system for moving the wastes from nuclear power reactors to the MRS and to a repository
