L-shell ionization and L X-ray emission induced by antiprotons
Description
The ionization of the L shell of atoms by energetic antiprotons was studied theoretically for the first time. In addition to the effects discussed by Brandt and Basbas for K shell, for L shell a further effect was shown to contribute to the particle-antiparticle differences in the cross sections. The effect is a result of coupling processes between different L substrates. As a demonstration, model calculations based on the second-order Born approximation were performed for gold in the energy range 0.2-1 MeV. (author) 20 refs.; 2 figs
