Thermal conductivity and magnon-phonon resonant interaction in antiferromagnetic ferrous chloride
Description
An apparatus has been studied and built to measure thermal conductivity between 0,3 K and 80 K. The thermal conductivity in the c plane and along the c axis have been measured in FeCl2. These results show an anomalous behaviour of the thermal conductivity below the Neel temperature. A calculation of the thermal conductivity of magneto-elastic modes arising from a magnon-phonon resonant interaction renders an account of this behaviour. From the present results, the magneto-elastic coupling constant G44 is found to be 3,5 meV. Finally, an experimental study of the thermal conductivity magnetic field dependence of FeCl2 was performed.(author)
Abstract (French)
Un appareillage de mesure de la conductivite thermique entre 0,3 K et 80 K a ete etudie et construit. On a mesure la conductivite thermique de FeCl2 perpendiculairement et parallelement a l'axe c: on observe un comportement anormal de la conductivite thermique essentiellement localise dans le domaine antiferromagnetique (T < 23,5 K). Un calcul original de la conductivite thermique des modes magnetoelastiques associes a l'existence d'une interaction resonnante magnon-phonon permet de rendre compte de ce comportement. La constante de couplage magnetoelastique G44 = 3,5 meV a ete deduite des resultats presentes. Enfin, nous avons realise une etude experimentale de la dependance en champ magnetique de la conductivite thermique du chlorure ferreux. (auteur)Files
