The spectroscopy of superdeformed bands

  • 1. Liverpool Univ. (United Kingdom). Oliver Lodge Lab.

Description

The spectroscopy of the regions of superdeformed nuclei near A = 150 and A = 190 is discussed. The dependence of the change in dynamic moment of inertia with rotational frequency ℎ ω on the proton and neutron intruder configurations [np,nn] is noted as is the effects of configuration on the phenomena of identical or isospectral bands. Spin assignments in the superdeformed Hg isotopes are discussed and attention drawn to an unaccounted for 1ℎ of alignment between isospectral bands. The superdeformed spectroscopy to be studied with the new large γ-ray spectrometer arrays is discussed briefly. (Author)
