Kinetic and thermodynamic analysis of metal and alloy iodide refining efficiency
- 1. Moskovskij Inzhenerno-Fizicheskij Inst. (USSR)
Description
Methods of chemical thermodynamics and kinetics were used to study processes of iodide refining of metals and alloys under static and dynamic conditions. Basic mass-transfer equations, enabling to predict both expected rates of precipitate growth and impurity concentrations in refined metal or alloy, were derived. It was suggested to use the dynamic coefficient of the adequacy of impurity transfer as the criterion of efficiency. Results of experimental investigation into processes of iodide Zr and Hf refining correspond satisfactorily with calculation data, obtained with account for mass-transfer selectivity
