New trends in the separation of cesium, strontium, and transplutonides by extraction methods
Description
Methods for nearly ultimate or ultimate disposal of radioactive wastes are shortly discussed. The transuranium waste can be converted into non-transuranium waste mainly by extraction methods (TRUEX, TESEO). 90Sr can also be extracted, e.g., by the SREX process, and both 137Cs and 90Sr by the dicarbollide process. In all the extraction processes rather costly 'exotic' reagents are used due to the need to separate the above elements from highly (3M) acidic media. The dicarbollide process is useful in the separation of all above-mentioned elements. (author) 1fig., 21 refs
