Relativistic effects in spin- and light-polarization parameters for low energy electron-cesium scattering

Description
Based on a recent Dirac R-matrix (close-coupling) calculation, we derived the complete set of spin-polarization parameters (open-quotes generalized STU parametersclose quotes) for elastic and inelastic scattering of slow (Ekin ≤ 2.04 eV) spin-polarized electrons from polarized and unpolarized neutral Cs atoms. Our results, together with the light polarizations (open-quotes integrated Stokes parametersclose quotes) in the optical decays (6p)2P1/2,3/2o → (6s)2S1/2 allow for a quantitative estimate of the importance of relativistic effects. The predictions clearly deviate from those obtained by simply jj-recoupling an essentially nonrelativistic calculation
