Description
Application of analytical technique have made major contribution towards understanding of material behavior and processes, leading to the introduction of improved process and yield of industrial products. This paper outlines research associated with the analysis of physical and, chemical changes appeared in lubricating oils during the operation of equipment and their re-generation by adopting suitable techniques, to make precious lubricating oil re-use able and to encounter the severe pollution problems caused by non-judicious disposal of waste lubricating oils. The lubricants in operation become contaminated and loose their efficiency due to the change in some of their properties and thus have to be discarded and replaced as frequently as necessary. In order to know the nature and extent of deterioration of the oil, samples of waste and virgin oils were analyzed for various physico-chemical parameters. Processes was developed to regenerate the waste oil. Analytical results of re-generated and virgin oil showed excellent comparison regarding quality of the product. (author)
