Status of cyclotron based radioisotope production in Almaty

Description
The Institute of Nuclear Physics in Almaty is elaborating program the aim of which is developing of technology and production of the most important for Kazakhstan radionuclides, radioactive sealed sources and radiopharmaceuticals for used in medicine, industry and in radioecological research in Kazakhstan. Solid and powder targets are irradiated with protons up to 30 MeV and alphas up to 50 MeV using positive ions variable energy isochronous cyclotron. Traditional wet chemistry procedures to extract and purify produced radioisotopes are used. Regular production of Tl-201, Ga-67, Co-57, Cd-109, Pu-237, Y-88, Sr-85 has already started. It is expected to expand the production of radionuclides as to include Fe-55, In-111. I-123, Rd-103 and some other radionuclides
