Effect of surface roughness on power frequency losses in superconducting Nb3Sn at 4.2 K

Description

The superconductivity of Nb3Sn samples was measured on specimens having various different surface conditions. It was found that although reasonably smooth surfaces are essential to obtain large surface barrier fields ΔH, other parameters such as pinning near the surface play a dominant role. (U.S.)
