Influence of heavy plastic deformation and recrystallization annealing on titanium density

Description

The density in submicrocrystalline titanium produced by repeated all-round deformation and its varying on subsequent recrystallization annealing were under study. The density was measured by the method of hydrostatic weighigh. It is found that the density of microcrystalline titanium is 0.5% lower as compared to that of coarse-grained material. This phenomenon can be explained by an increase of total lengths of grain boundaries in microcrystalline metal and by increased interatomic distances in near the boundary areas. 10 refs.; 2 tabs
