Description
Efforts are being made by organic/separation chemists to develop environmentally benign solvents/separation processes for the partitioning of minor actinides (Am, Cm, Np) present in the High-Level Waste (HLW) solutions. In this context, N,N'-dimethyl-N,N'-dioctyl-2,(2'-hexyloxyethyl) malonamides (DMDOHEMA), proposed by French researchers, was synthesized by an alternative route in our laboratory and is being evaluated for extraction/transport of metal ions under simulated PHWR-SHLW conditions. The facilitated transport of Am(lII) across a supported liquid membrane (SLM) impregnated with 1 M DMDOHEMA solution in n-dodecane was investigated under varying conditions of feed acidity (1- 6 M HNO3), receiver phase composition (0.01 M HNO3, 0.1 and 0.2 M oxalic acid, 0.5 M Na2CO3)
