Structural and phase transformations occuring in sintered titanium materials under friction

  • 1. AN Ukrainskoj SSR, Kiev. Inst. Problem Materialovedeniya

Description

Wear, structural and phase transformations in Ti, IT-20, IT-20-Mo materials are studied under a high-temperature friction in the air. Molybdenum being present as inclusions improves considerably the wear-resistance of the IT-20 meaterial at 250-550 deg C, which is explained by formation of oxide films (as a result of friction in the air) with high protecting and lubricating properties and containing mainly molybdenum oxides and hydroxides. Molybdenum as an alloying element is stated to prevent solid inclusions from coagulation in the material
