Description

The solid-state reactions of (n,γ) produced hot 82Br atoms were studied in K2OsBr4Cl2-K2SnCl6 mixed crystals. The main products are Os82BrBrnCl2-5-n (n = 2, 3, 4) and 82Br-, but the other species (n 0, 1, 5) were also found. In K2OsBr4Cl2-K2SnCl6 mixed crystals with a large excess of K2SnCl6 besides 82Br- only Os82BrBr2Cl32- and Os82BrBr3Cl22- were found but no Os82BrBr4Cl2- and Os82BrBr52-which verifies the absence of long range diffusion of bromide ions. From the yields (dependent upon the mixed crystal concentration) of the 82Br labelled products the contributions of the different reaction channels postulated by the ''Impact-induced MUltiple Ligand Abstraction'' (IMULA) model were evaluated: 9-30% interstitials, 9-20% primary retention, 24-34% single ligand replacement, 20% ligand replacement plus one additional vacancy, 17% ligand replacement plus two additional vacancies.
