VII. Principles of application of ultrasonic and thermal energy and of nuclear magnetic resonance in diagnosis and therapy
Creators
Description
Nuclear magnetic resonance can also be used for diagnosis in medicine. Its principle is described. A sensing coil is placed in the neighbourhood of resonant protons which records the amplitude of the signal from proton magnetization. Different NMR signals are obtained depending on the bond of hydrogen atoms and the composition of tissues examined. The resonance signal is in direct proportΩn to the thickness of the examined layer. The arrangement of different sensing coils in different planes allows to obtain a three-dimensional image. (E.S.)
