Decay studies of nuclei far from stability: from MeV/u to GeV/u heavy-ion beams
Description
Some recent decay studies of very proton-rich nuclei are presented as examples for nuclear-structure investigations far from the line of beta stability. Most of these investigations are based on heavy-ion beams from the accelerators UNILAC (5 to 20 MeV/u) or GANIL (<85 MeV/u) in combination with an on-line mass separator or a zero-degree spectrometer, respectively. The prospects for the latter type of instrument on-line to SIS (<2 GeV/u) are also described. (author) 35 refs., 8 figs
