Monitoring techniques for radioactivities in environment
Description
The present status of the monitoring systems for environmental tritium was summarized in this report. Generally, natural water, organisms and the air are used as the test subjects for environmental monitoring. In these subjects, the tritium levels are ordinarily very low. Therefore, an electrolytic concentration method with alkaline solution has been used for its concentration. Recently, solid polymer electrolyte method using cation exchange resin membrane (SPE method) has been developed and a specific automatic apparatus for SPE method is obtainable in the market. This method is more reliable and safety with no generation of detonating gas compared with the previous one. The determination of tritium level is conducted by liquid scintillation counter, which is satisfactorily sensitive for tritium levels in the environment. Also, it is desirable to determine the trace tritium by He-isotope method for the comparison with the data from the liquid scintillation method. (M.N.)

本報告では、環境トリチウムのモニタリングシステムの現状についてまとめた。一般に、環境モニタリングの対象は、天然水、生物、大気である。これらの試料では、通常、トリチウム濃度は非常に低い。そのため、従来はアルカリ溶液を用いた電解濃縮法が用いられてきた。近年、陽イオン交換樹脂膜を用いた固体高分子電解質(Solid Polymer Electrolyte: SPE)法が開発され、SPE方式のトリチウム自動濃縮装置も商品化されるようになった。この方法は、従来の方法と比較して、より信頼性が高く、爆鳴気が発生せず安全性が高い方法である。トリチウム濃度の測定は、環境中のトリチウム濃度に対して十分な感度を持つ液体シンチレーションカウンターで行っている。また、液体シンチレーション法のデータとの比較のため、He同位体法による微量トリチウムの定量も望まれる。(M.N.)Additional details
